Templater - Local Installation

Before you begin

Download the latest Encodian Templater manifest.xml for MS Word →

A local installation of the Encodian Templater add-in is recommended if you wish to test the functionality before deploying to your wider organisation.  To learn how to deploy Encodian Templater to multiple users via M365 administration, please review the article 'Templater - M365 Installation'.

The Encodian Templater add-in is supplied as a manifest.xml file that can be installed directly into MS Word Online or a local installation of MS Word.  Please note that the installation process differs for each scenario, so please ensure that you follow the correct procedure for your requirements.

MS Word Online

  1. Open MS Word online in your browser.
  2. Select the 'Add-ins' icon Addin Icon.pngfrom the 'Home' tab.
  3. Select 'Advanced' from the Add-ins window.

  4. Select 'Upload My Add-in' then browse for the manifest.xml file and click 'Upload'.

  5. Select the 'Add-ins' icon Addin Icon.pngfrom the 'Home' tab and the 'Encodian Templater' add-in will be visible to select.

MS Word Desktop

  1. Save the manifest.xml file to a shared network folder accessible by all users who will require access to the add-in (e.g., \YourServer\SharedAddins).
  2. Open MS Word then select 'File' followed by 'Options'.
  3. In the dialog box, select 'Trust Center' from the left pane.
  4. Select then 'Trust Center Settings' button. 

  5. In the 'Trust Center' dialog box select 'Trusted Add-in Catalogs' from the left pane. 

  6. In the 'Catalog URL' field, enter the network path to your shared folder where the manifest.xml file is located (e.g., \YourServer\SharedAddins).
  7. Click Add catalog.
  8. Check the 'Show in Menu; checkbox next to the newly added catalog.
  9. Click OK to close all dialog boxes then restart Word
  10. Reopen MS Word, select 'Add-ins' on the Ribbon followed by 'Advanced', Templater should appear, with the option to click add in the bottom right. After this, Templater should appear on the ribbon next to ‘Add-ins'
